For those of you that don’t know, Harrod’s is a famous London department store. A few of us went there the other day to have lunch and wander around (it’s much too expensive to actually buy anything.) We had an overpriced lunch at an overrated Arabic restaurant (Harrod’s houses about 10 restaurants as well as a whole gourmet foods department) and with our stomachs full began our window shopping (can you still call it window shopping if you’re inside the store?) Our first stop was Christmas World, where the staple décor was upside-down Christmas trees. I was quite impressed at the displays, but my friend Molly informed me anyone can have an upside-down Christmas tree, as long as it’s fake. All you have to do is put the branches in the opposite direction they’re supposed to be put on. We then walked through rooms and rooms of gorgeous designer clothes (Chanel, Valentino, Oscar de la Renta…..) and made our way to the Pet Area. The store sells actual animals (there were a few puppies and some rabbits) as well as ridiculously priced pet accessories, such as the 130 pound rhinestone collar and the 200 pound doggie-bed. It also has fitting rooms so your dog can try on any of the clothes in the store. Our last stop, and my favorite, was the Toy World. There were lots of fun things to play with, including some sort of powder that when mixed with water turns into “snow”. We played with it for awhile, and while doing so, I met a 13 year old boy whose father had left him in the store while he went to pick up the boy’s mother from the airport. He had two hours to kill so he asked the snow demonstrator if he could be his helper while he waited for his parents to come back. This kid was quite unique, and told me that his parents own 76 lingerie stores in Italy (that’s where his mother was coming from) and he not only works at the stores but designs women’s lingerie as well. You just never know who you’ll meet.
