Many of my fellow students like to travel as cheaply as possible so the trip organizer booked us the three-star option for our Egypt tour. Words of advice: You get what you pay for in Egypt. Our hotel in Cairo was dingy to say the least, there was no hot water, and there was blood on the tv’s remote control. We had a triple room, and the third bed didn’t have any linens. When we asked for someone to bring us linens as well as an extra towel, it took five hours and about five different times asking for someone to finally bring them to us.
We actually weren’t scheduled to stay in a hotel in Luxor as we arrived on the sleeper train at 8:00am and were scheduled to leave at 9:00pm that night, but we were finished sight-seeing by 4:00pm so we got a hotel for those few hours. The three-star hotel in Luxor was better than the one in Cairo, but it still left much to be desired. My favorite was the astro-turf surrounding the pool and the fact that the air conditioner was broken when it was 100+ degrees out. If I ever return to Egypt, I’m doing the five-star option. It’s worth it.
