Friday in Budapest

This past week I spent Friday-Sunday in Budapest with four of my classmates. We flew out Friday morning and upon arrival in Hungary took a cab to our accommodations, which we had booked sight unseen via the internet. We were looking from a step down from a hotel but a step up from a hostel….and we arrived at Agape Apartmenthouses. It was an apartment complex about a 15 minute walk off the beaten tourist path subdivided between different companies that each rented out a number of apartments to vacationers. I was expecting a studio apartment with a bed and a pull-out couch, but we ended up with a two story apartment with two bathrooms, two bedrooms, a kitchen and a family room. And all for $50/pp for the weekend!

That night we headed down towards the Danube River because someone told us we had to go on a river boat to get the best views of the city. We wandered around the riverfront for awhile, and saw lots of boats, but they all were full of OLD people. Turns out we were at the docking stations for the Danube River Cruise ships, the ones that you sleep on and that take you up and down the river for a few days. Explains the old people. We eventually found the boats we were looking for, and took an hour cruise up and down the Danube. Unfortunately, it started to rain so we had to do on the bottom deck of the boat. The cruise was just okay, but I would do it again just for the views of the Hungarian Parliament.
