By the time July rolled around, temperatures during the day were reaching 90 degrees and Vienna was sweltering. Luckily we lived in the place to be in Vienna in the summer. I had seen an advertisement for the Vienna City Beach Club so we decided to check it out one scorching afternoon. We got a group of about 8 people and walked the mile or so downriver. The VCBC is part restaurant, part bar, part club and it sits beside the river. They have literally built a beach, complete with sand, beach chairs and umbrellas, next to the river and people come to hang out, swim, and enjoy the DJs spinning tunes all day and all night long. It was a cloudless day and we spent the first few hours there chatting, enjoying some ice cold drinks (rare in Europe) and chatting.
After a some calm time we decided we wanted to play beach volleyball, and found a group of Austrian guys who agreed to play against us. I haven’t played volleyball in years, and I had a great time. We ended up losing horribly, but a fun time was had by all. The rest of the afternoon we were entertained by the inflatable bounce-house and even more so by the inflatable, life-sized fooz-ball court. You entered the court and strapped yourself in to a harness type thing, which gave you limited movement just like the men attached to the rods in a fooz-ball table. It was bizarre. When the sun started to set we decided to call it a night and headed home, tanned and tired.
