Pit Stop to Local Market and 7-11

Day 2 of the tour started with a western breakfast in the dining pavilion then we headed to a local town so Kung could show us a market. The market was like other markets we had seen in Thailand, and she pointed out local foods to us and what they were used for. There was a stall selling children’s plastic toy bikes, and Kung told us that these were very expensive and that most people couldn’t afford them (they were $15 USD). The market wasn’t very crowded, and we soon figured out that it was because EVERYONE was in the neighboring 7-11. These slurpee vending convenience stores are surprisingly all over Thailand (we saw at least 10 in Phuket) and I swear the entire town was in this one store. You could barely move in there. We pushed our way through and Molly found her favorite childhood snack, Koala Yummies, which are little chocolate filled cookies made by an Australian company. They stopped being distributed in her childhood grocery store when she was about 7 years old, and she hasn’t had them since. I’ve never seen Molly so excited. Little did we know the Koala Yummies would cause quite the scare later that night.
